Pension / Benefits Trainer

Reporting to the Manager, Pension Services, the Pension Specialist & Trainer analyzes current processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with all applicable organizational, contractual, and regulatory requirements and develops and delivers training to HEB employees regarding pension offerings.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Process and verify pension and benefit calculations, and information prepared for members to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide one-on-one counselling to members or their beneficiaries, both in and out of the office as required.
  • Deliver pre-retirement presentations upon request.
  • Identify and analyze complex member situations and provide all necessary information to management for review, including a clear and comprehensive recommendation for resolution.
  • Facilitate transition of trainees from training to work environment, ensuring competency levels meet business needs.
  • Provide technical expertise by mentoring team members on best practices to promote development and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify training needs and provide reports, assessments, feedback and metrics on training needs and progress to the management team.
  • Develop and maintain training curriculum, plans, manuals, schedules, competency tests, evaluations and trainer notes.

 

You and Your Experience:

  • Related post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree.
  • Minimum of five to seven years’ experience in Defined Benefit pension plans; experience in Group Benefits would be an asset.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience delivering and facilitating adult classroom training and/or presenting to groups.
  • Effective written and oral communication and presentation skills and the demonstrated ability to deal effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Completion of, or coursework towards, the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) or Pension Plan Administration Certification (PPAC) would be an asset (or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience).
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills to manage competing priorities, including project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team focus.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications.
